2016 Fall & 2017 Winter Hunt Report
Wow! Another successful season has come and gone here at Mackin Outfitting, it’s hard to believe that the 2016 season marked our 15th year in business. As I reflect on our past hunting season here there are many great memories that come to mind. Things got going on September 1st with our first mule deer archery hunters Tim Galbraith and John Carbine. On day 3 Tim arrowed an awesome old, heavy, non-typical 175” character buck! John and I continued going after a couple huge bucks I had been watching since early august but between Mother Nature and Murphy John was unable to harvest a buck but it was not without a great effort. The second hunt our guide Cody Symonds joined me to help guide Fred Johnson and his son Tyler Johnson and step son David Bodine.
2015 Fall & 2016 Winter Hunt Report
As I sit here finally getting a chance to write our season's newsletter the grass is already starting to green up, wow I think spring is almost here! I have always enjoyed spring but now that I can spend multiple weeks in the outdoors guiding our spot and stalk black bear hunters - I really look forward to it! Last spring I was joined by good friends Chris Endres and his son Daniel from Indiana on an exciting black bear hunt. After numerous days of hard work Daniel was able to connect on a HUGE boar on a beautiful spring evening. The next hunt, repeat client and good friend Nick Jorae of Michigan came on his first spring hunt with us and I am pretty sure it's safe to say that he enjoyed it a lot! It's hard to beat watching the landscape come to life while searching for a trophy bear.
2014 Fall & 2015 Winter Hunt Report
Hard to believe it is already March and we have completed another very successful season here at Mackin Outfitting! As I look back at the season it is very exciting to remember the great memories made with both new and repeat clients. The season began in September with our exciting Mule Deer bow hunts. During the first hunt John Milhiser of Illinois arrowed a great 172" velvet buck on opening day. The second hunt we were surprised with 8 inches of heavy snow which made things very difficult but Derek Bell of Texas hung in there to harvest a nice wide framed 166". The third hunt I was joined by repeat hunter Mike Castillo and his friend Ken Lemner of Vermont to go after elk with their archery gear, we hunted hard and had a few close calls but could not connect on a bull.
2013 Fall & 2014 Winter Hunt Report
Another season has come and gone here at Mackin Outfitting, and an excellent one it was! Our fall began in early September with velvet Mule Deer bow hunts; here repeat clients Dale Gaugler and his son in law Brian Schroyer. Both harvested awesome bucks (Brian 172” and Dale a 163” 3- point !) As bow season rolled along another repeat client Mike Castillo shot a great hard horned 174” with his wife Jill filming it all at his side. Early October found Chris Endres and his father Ben rifle hunting big high country mule deer in our mountain area by horseback. It was a fantastic hunt, besides watching grizzly bears and riding through beautiful country Chris managed to harvest a tremendous heavy horned 179” buck, his father Ben was close but after hurting his knee we had to focus on the trout fishing!
2012 Fall & 2013 Winter Hunt Report
Hard to believe another great hunting season has passed and it was another huge success with all our clients enjoying exciting, successful and memorable hunts. We are currently fully booked for the 2013 season and are now filling spots for 2014 so if you are interested in booking a hunt please contact us. Mackin Outfitting is also excited to be adding spring spot and stalk black bear hunts in 2014 to its list of fully outfitted southern Alberta hunts.
